Pete Maly...Who was a MXA test rider actually had the idea and ran it by Larry Escamilla and Jody Wiesel who thought it was a great idea , Pete told me about it over the 4th of July weekend in 1980 we were at a Waterski School in Newberry Springs .
A meeting was set up at Jody's MXA office, Dennis Cox and Larry Escamiila were also there , we spread the word, We did the same thing for the 81 race , we had a meeting in Jody's office , it was in that meeting that the Full Floaters were dreamed up...
The race grew and more people came aboard offering to help out..Each year became easier...but remember there wasn't any internet back then , the word was spread over the phone , word of mouth , and by flyers that we sent to motorcycle shops, Bertus was the only big CZ shop still operating in 1980 so he was the first one I took a stack of flyers to...
I always had flyers in my truck, more coming later.....
